Project 3

For Project 3 I worked with Ted Cogan and Jack Larson to write a letter to Governor John Kasich of Ohio. Ted is an Ohio resident so we felt he was the best person to try and reach. At the end of the post you will find a link to the letter. While we were drafting ideas we wanted to narrow our stance on the issue to a few fundamental points that we believe are being misunderstood by several politicians.

First, all of us agree that Apple is correct in their case with the FBI. We also all had slightly different opinions on why it was a very important issue. I am not necessarily against the government having access to all of my information. I do think that privacy is important when large companies have access to so much of our data, but I also understand the FBI’s interest in gathering data if it will keep citizens safe. My biggest concern is with the creation of a software that anyone would be able to get their hands on. The government fundamentally misunderstands the creation of this technology and how difficult it would be to keep secure. Finally, Jack brought up the strong point that this is an issue for legislation. In the letter linked you can see how we constructed out ideas.
